Analysis of the poem ”Strawberrying””

Today, I would like to introduce a poem that we dealt with in class.

It is a poem called "Strawberrying" by May Swenson.

First of all, I thought the title was interesting.

When I read the poem, I found that the word "strawberry" was never mentioned in the poem.

But as we read the poem, we can naturally imagine the scene of strawberry picking. In other words, this poem describes the scene of strawberry picking using various expressions.

And in such an ordinary scene, we find some disturbing words like heart, blood, and death. Those words make the atmosphere of the poem a bit unusual.

This made me think that the poem implies a contrast between plants, including strawberries, and humans.

It was very interesting to think about what was implied in the poem while reading it and sharing opinions with my friends.
